For those of you wondering at the name 'Married Ladies Netball Association', here is a little background to the association. And no, you don't have to be married to play in our netball competition! You only have to be female and over 18 years old.
MLNA was formed in 1976 with 13 teams competing. The founding committee was as follows: President: Glenys Williams Secretary: Margaret Chatto Treasurer: Barbara DeValle Committee: Bernize Goedna, Louise Parmenter, Chris Stanley, Alison Lewis
Between 1976 - 1985 the competition averaged 18 teams. Between 1986 - 1995 the competition averaged 13 teams. Between 1996 - 2005 the competition averaged 12 teams.
The decrease in numbers due to increased women the workforce.
67 members have received Faye McKenzie Memorial 10 Year Service Award. The 20 Year Service Award - 9 times. The 25 Year Service Award - 3 Times - Judy (Lea) Fitz-Gerard, Glenys Perris and Marg Donaldson. Mard Retired in 2003 with 28 years service tot eh Association. Glenys retired in 2007 and Judy retired in 2008.
In its 34 years there have been more than 1500 members participating in almost 70 teams.
34 Life Members to 2008. There are two original teams still competing - Swans and North.
